dear people of the world,


please, avert your eyes away from this post at once if you have any notion of grace and me as sweet, innocent girls. or if you would like to keep that notion, at least. we are for the most part, but not the parts that like digital shorts from saturday night live. yes, in fact they are rather crude, most of the time just downright inappropriate, and admittedly very different than most of the things we post about, but i, at least, can't help myself. they cause fits of laughter every time.

yeah yeah americans blah blah blah. these two canadian ice dancers are pretty high up on the list of things i like right now. they're essentially the cutest thing since bunnies.



i pretty much adore them. every time they've been on the olympics in vancouver this week i have said, out loud, "they're SO cute!" or something to that effect.
tessa virtue and scott moir have been skating together since they were 12 and 14, respectively, in 1997. awh.
they've won countless competitions, including a gold medal in vancouver.
in conclusion, i basically want them to get married and be happy and adorable forever.

that said, watch their gold-medal-winning routine from the 2010 winter olympics!



congratulations, tessa and scott! you deserved your medals.

gotta love that tramp

charlie chaplin.




the man was a genius. he wrote scripts, composed scores, directed, and acted.
an incredibly funny man who could easily make you cry with the wave of his hand, chaplin redefined cinema.

yes, the mustache was fake, and yes, he was kicked out of the country. don't let that stop you though. in fact, let that encourage you.





though in younger generations it never recieves the respect it deserves, his was the golden age of hollywood.
in fact, chaplin co-founded united artists in 1919 with douglas fairbanks, mary pickford, and d. w. griffith. (more on them in later posts, perhaps.)

despite leading an extraodinarily difficult life, charlie chaplin 'brought pleasure and relief to so many human beings when they needed it most.' to learn more about his life in a painless and enjoyable manner, check out the movie chaplin, which is available free right now on imdb and other websites. also, its robert downey jr. at his very best.

friends, and their alter-egos.

we have a friend, over here at things we like. he is amazing. amazingtastic. anyway, his real name is not to be mentioned, but his alter ego is equally superlative-worthy. i present you with:

BRIAN MICHAEL ESTERWOOD.

as he is fond of saying, CHEA.
mr. esterwood likes partying. a lot. and basically everything extreme and crazy, but it's fantastic. truly.
now, it needs to be noted that this post is in no way condoning blogs from the point of view of mr. esterwood, seeing as he hates them. but he was gracious enough to allow his photo to appear here. kudos, mr. esterwood, and stay fresh.

and the view is fantastic.

one of my all-time favorite movies is the merchant ivory production a room with a view. it's based on e.m. forester's novel of the same name.


set in turn-of-the-century england and italy, the film is an exquisite exploration of what it means to follow one's heart. the main character is miss lucy honeychurch, played by the lovely helena bonham carter! back before she started dressing like she actually is bellatrix lestrange. of course. the scenery is fantastic, the cinematography lovely, and the script is in turns romantic and quietly comedic. and, since it is a merchant ivory film, the costuming is gorgeous! all in all, a marvelous film. i highly reccommend it.


WARNING: that contains brief, full frontal male nudity. it's actually one of the funnier parts of the movie, but that's there. just saying.

in addition, the film also contains one of my most favorite songs ever! of the classical variety, anyway. how perfect.

a partnership to die for, among other things.

hey y'all, can we just talk about bones for a minute? kthx. it's my favorite show on television. it might even surpass lost for the time being, on account of how irritating all of the characters are being right now. ahem. are you hearing this, abrams? anyway, i digress. BONES. i was talking about it.

here we have the main characters (also, the partership to die for) dr. temperance "bones" brennen and fbi special agent seeley booth. how adorable are they?

so, why i like it: it's always intriguing and totally captivating, the plot lines are original, the dialogue is witty and spot on, and the character relationships are deliciously complex. and all of the characters are geniuses. just saying.

i highly suggest you go watch bones, right now. what are you doing reading my blog? you should be watching bones!!

sadly, despite a long while searching, there was no clip suitable enough to live up to the glory that is emily deschanel and david boreanaz. my apologies. so just look at this cute picture instead!

dear world,

we would like to invite you to watch the wondrous film atonement. and by invite, we mean order.

we just watched it, and it's only one of the most amazing pieces of cinema. ever.

let's talk about its features: the score. amazing. also, who doesn't love clare de lune?

yes, that video is odd, and they spelled the song title wrong, but it's the best video we could find.

another thing: this film possesses one of the longest continuous shots in the history of film. that's pretty epic.

yet another thing: keira knightley and james mcavoy. need we say more?

go watch.
